Student Travel Grants help students participate in SIGCOMM‑sponsored conferences by offsetting the cost of attending in person. These grants broaden participation by enabling students with limited financial resources to engage directly with the SIGCOMM community, attend technical sessions, and connect with researchers from around the world. Travel‑grant programs have long been a core part of SIGCOMM’s commitment to inclusion and community support, appearing across multiple conference years and consistently enabling broad student participation.
In SIGCOMM 2025, the Student Travel Grant program underwent a substantial expansion, with three targeted travel‑grant opportunities and a commitment to providing support to as many eligible applicants as possible. The 2025 call listed separate funding channels, emphasized broad participation, and clearly framed the effort as a major push to increase access and inclusion for students, postdocs, and early‑career researchers with limited resources.
If you represent a company or organization and are interested in contributing to our travel‑grant programs or supporting student participation in other ways, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please reach out to us (ec@sigcomm.org) so we can discuss how your support can best make a meaningful impact.
What the Grant Covers
Student Travel Grants typically reimburse key travel‑related expenses, which may include economy airfaire, hotel accommodations during the conference, and conference registration.
Eligibility
Eligibility criteria historically include:
Enrollment as an undergraduate, master’s, or PhD student at the time of the conference
Demonstrated interest in networking research
Preference for students who are not presenting a full paper, since presenting authors are generally expected to be supported by their institutions (exceptions may be considered)
Strong encouragement for students presenting posters or demos, who are explicitly invited to apply in SIGCOMM 2025 and other conference years
Staying Informed
Students should regularly check the official conference website for the current year for a primary source of updates. Students are also encouraged to watch sigcomm.org, the SIGCOMM slack workspace, and announcements from the organizing committee for supplementary information.
