The SIGCOMM Ambassadors Program identifies and supports high‑impact, innovative individuals who have strong connections to underrepresented regions or communities and who are already taking initiative to broaden participation in networking research. Ambassadors are selected for their ability to act as local catalysts: people who mentor emerging researchers, build grassroots networks, organize or inspire local events, and help connect new voices to the global SIGCOMM community. The program is a core part of SIGCOMM’s broader diversity and inclusion ecosystem, which also includes Regional Centers, Conference Pods, and the SIGCOMM Diversity Coordinator role. These efforts collectively advance SIGCOMM’s long‑standing commitment to outreach and community building, as reflected in its public mission and community‑engagement initiatives.
Ambassadors may facilitate reading groups, research meetups, mentoring circles, or information sessions about SIGCOMM opportunities. They also help students and early‑career researchers navigate the broader networking research landscape, surface local successes, and ensure that underrepresented voices have pathways into global conversations. In many regions, Ambassadors become central community builders who help initiate collaborations, spark interest in networking research, and support participants who may not otherwise have access to international venues.
SIGCOMM provides Ambassadors with visibility, guidance, and opportunities to collaborate with other regional leaders across the SIGCOMM network. Ambassadors often collaborate closely with Pod organizers, Regional Centers, local chapters, and educators, making the program an integral component of SIGCOMM’s global engagement strategy.
How to Get Involved
If you are passionate about strengthening networking research in your region or connected to a community that is historically underrepresented in SIGCOMM, we encourage you to get in touch. While Ambassadors have traditionally been established or senior members of the networking community with strong influence and deep local connections, SIGCOMM is committed to reaching into every community. For this reason, anyone may express interest in serving as an Ambassador, including students, early‑career researchers, faculty, and local organizers who are already making an impact or who aspire to help grow their communities. What matters most is your commitment, your connection to your local community, and your interest in broadening participation.
In addition, if you are looking to connect with your local Ambassador, SIGCOMM can help facilitate that connection. Simply tell us your region, or, if applicable, the underrepresented group you identify with, and we will direct you to an Ambassador who is best positioned to support your interests and community.
