ACM Sigcomm Site Proposal Information

The SIGCOMM EC is excited to announce the call for site proposals for SIGCOMM 2027! As we plan for another impactful conference, we invite potential organizers to propose exciting locations and venues. SIGCOMM follows a three-year rotation (North America, Europe, and 'wild card'), so 2027 is "wild-card", so proposals should be outside North America and Europe.

Here's your chance to shape the future of SIGCOMM and showcase your geographic region and its vibrant research ecosystem. Strong proposals should be near a major international airport, within reach of regular train/cab/shuttle service, have a venue to hold and provide Internet connectivity for over 700 attendees. Please submit your proposals by January 15, 2025.

There is a three-year rotation between North America, Europe, and 'wild card,' which could be anywhere in the world. Each year, we will accept proposals from all locations, but give preference to site proposals from the geographical location corresponding to the rotation (except, of course, for ‘wild card’ years). The schedule for the next few years is as follows:

• 2025: Coimbra, Portugal 

• 2026: (TBD) US

In deciding between proposals, we try to balance between cost, availability of local organizers, and availability of conference facilities. We encourage potential organizers in the appropriate geographical scope to submit a short (2-page) preliminary application. We will select a few of these preliminary applications to gather additional information and from which the final selection will be made.

Preliminary site proposals can be just a page or two in length.  Send proposals via email to the current ACM SIGCOMM Conference Coordinator with the header: "SIGCOMM site proposal - YEAR". 

Solicitations for site proposals are typically sent out at the beginning of September, two years in advance of the conference, and proposals are expected to be submitted within about a month of the call being issued (or as per the deadline specified in the call itself). Potential proposers are encouraged to contact EC members, preferably before the beginning of September, to learn about deadlines in effect in any given year.

Site proposals should address the following three issues:

A: City

The city should be located near a major international airport, within 1-2 hours of regular train service and/or 45 minutes of cab/shuttle service. A major international airport should have at least two airlines with regular international service to the 4 major continents of SIGCOMM attendees: Asia, Europe, North and South America.

1. The city should have one or more venues for over 700 attendees, including side-venues for 4-6 concurrent tutorials and/or workshops of 100 attendees each. The venue should support a single center screen or two side-by-side screens with unobstructed views. The venues should include or allow for rental of equipment for Internet connectivity for 700 attendees in the main conference hall.

2. The city should have hotels supporting 500-800 people (attendees and their guests) within easy access (less than 15 minutes time, preferably at most 1 bus/tram) to the possible venue.

3. The city should have potential venues for a reception and banquet dinner. A sample list of possible venues with a 1-line description addressing logistics (time to get there, need for transportation) would be useful. Transportation to these events should be less than 30 minutes each way.

B. Conference General Chair & Exec. Committee

Name and affiliation of a widely-recognized member of the SIGCOMM community based in or very close to the proposed site city who is willing to serve as general chair. The proposal may suggest up to 2 co-chairs, one of which must be local.

The names and affiliations of a few other candidates which the chair can enlist to serve on the committee, notably a local person as local arrangements chair, a publicity chair, treasurer, etc.

NOTE: the site proposal need not suggest program committee chairs; that is handled separately by the SIGCOMM Technical Steering Committee.

C. Date conflicts

The conference is typically held between August 10 and September 10. Please indicate which dates have major local conflicts, e.g., major local events, school openings, etc. that would interfere with either the proposed site or the proposed conference chair's participation.

There is no need to provide financial details or a list of hotels. Please do NOT contact possible venues regarding availability or cost. The ACM negotiates those issues directly.
