SIGCOMM is ACM's professional forum for discussing communications and
computer networks. The SIG sponsors a range of conferences and awards
travel grants to attend them, oversees the publication of its
newsletter, CCR, and organizes various events for its members, including
summer schools and students workshops. In particular, the SIG has a
strong tradition of activities aimed at encouraging the participation of
students and junior researchers.
The SIGCOMM Education Director is responsible for coordinating
activities aimed at creating educational material and opportunities on
various networking topics for students and our members, as well as for
soliciting and initiating new activities in those areas. Examples of
past such activities include contributions to ACM/IEEE CS Curriculum,
organizing shadow TPCs, supporting summer schools, organizing education
workshops, initiating the CoNEXT student workshop, editing the SIGCOMM
ebook on recent advances in networking, etc.
The new SIGCOMM Education Director is expected to not only continue
coordinating existing educational activities, but also contribute to
encouraging and creating new proposals that address the expectations of
today's students and teachers. Possible ideas include exploring MOOCs,
webinars, improving the quality of wikipedia networking pages,
organizing hackathons or education workshops on emerging topics. The
SIG is committed to helping support greater educational initiatives and
resources will be made available to help the new Education Director
realize them.
Interested candidates should submit by email to the SIG Chair
(guerin@acm.org) a short (one or two pages) statement describing their
vision and objectives for this position, a link to a recent CV, and a
list of three names that the SIGCOMM EC could contact for references.
